Car is now sat on the ground with red light on dash stating 'stop car too low'. I know i have a slow leak from the rear bags but before i invest heavily in new suspension parts i need to see the compressor work.
I have removed the compresssor and checked it works fine, just no power to it. I have read that the compressor relays do fail, and i would like to check that next, but cannot find it it.
Can anyone tell me where it lives? Many thanks, Christian. Hi malcolm, thank for the swift reply. However on checking my car i do not have a fuse with that part number, nor do i have a green coloured one. Obviously someone swapped it out prior to my ownership. I have scoured the internet but still do not know exactly which slot the relay lives. The airmatic relay is on its own at the rear of the fuse board, it was a green five pin relay but had now been changed to a black four pin relay Cole MBSNov 12, Please see image of my relay box attached here.
It's not shown there, it's closer under the screen, it's a stand alone relay, as I said, was green, could now be black What can happen on these relays is that they can stick or latch on, running the pump all the time, not a bad idea to change these relays from time to time.
Its the same thing with the air pumps for emissions. I have fished out a small relay that was swinging around freely at the back of the relay and fuse box under the windscreen.
It was not attached to the box at all which is odd. It mounted on a block that appeared to accept two relay, but I had just this fella. How to Fix Airmatic Suspension: Is it Worth Saving Big Money $$
A quick look inside it appears in good condition no burnt contacts, but I have not tested with voltage.
Photos attached. Can anyone confirm to me if this is the air suspension compressor pump relay? Part number is Need the first 6 VIN numbers to check that.

Has anybody had experience on getting this done? Does ride quality suffer? I believe the compressor is gone as it was noisy but I don't know if that was normal for these compressors.
What Are Common Air Suspension Problems?
If I get a spring conversion then no more air compressor, air lines, air bags, height sensors, solenoid's, rear height control modules. Surely its the right way to go?? Cheers for any comments Chris.
Marku Active Member. No doubt some one has done it but I would think it a major job even if possible. You would probably find it easier to get a complete rear axle from a Vito than try to adapt the Viano axle. Never had any problem with ours.
I can lower it up and down with one switch then there is another with a red light but no idea what its for?
Whenever I lower the suspension and drive it, it always seems to go back up. Is there anyway to keep a set height? If someone could explain how it works it would be really appreciated. Thanks, Rob. If the air conditioner unit is not running normally or is only blowing out warm air, it may be a temporary fault. Be aware that if you reset the unit and it again stops working, you need to take the vehicle in to the dealership for repairs. Insert the key into the Mercedes ignition and turn the ignition cylinder to the "2" position.
This is as far as the cylinder will go without cranking the engine. Press and hold the defrost and recirculated air buttons simultaneously. The defrost button has three lines going through it, while the recirculated air button has a picture of a car with a curved line through it.
Hold these buttons down for about five to 10 seconds, or until the LED lights on both buttons start flashing. Wait 45 to 60 seconds for the LED lights to stop flashing. Then turn off the car. Mercedes have crafted a beautifully impressive air suspension system in their self-adjusting Airmatic shocks. The Airmatic suspension system was initially designed to combat the issues that drivers were facing with the suspension being too rigid or not providing enough resistance during bumpy driving. Striking this middle-ground was a complex process for Mercedes, but they managed to find the solution with their Airmatic suspension To read more about the Airmatic suspension, please see our article: What is Airmatic Suspension?
However, despite its incredible design, the Airmatic is not immune from failure. With natural wear-and-tear of a vehicle; parts fail, malfunction, getting damaged, dirty and generally not performing as well as when they were driven directly out of the car dealership.Lamina lisa calibre 20
The Airmatic suspension was first launched by Mercedes inso it has been installed in some Mercedes vehicles for over 16 years. This far surpasses any generous warranty period, so even durable original Airmatics may need to be replaced over time. This article will cover some of the common Mercedes Airmatic problems that occur and how to identify them.
A lot of Mercedes-Benz cars have an air suspension control unit N51which is responsible for the adjustments between sport and comfort modes of driving.
Mercedes Viano Air suspension - Replace with springs??
However, sometimes there are problems with this system or there is a fault with the air suspension itself. Usually, the dashboard informs the driver of any potential issue, but this is often vague and inconclusive about the exact problem.
It may simply indicate that there is a problem and to bring it to your mechanic, so this article will describe some of the potential issues. The relay is a switch that controls electronic circuits by opening and closing circuits within your compressor. Sometimes it fails as a result of over-extended periods of engagement with the compressor. Your mechanic will help you to identify where the Airmatic relay location is if you are want to change it. This is a straightforward fix that your garage can change quite easily.
The compressor is responsible for pumping the air suspension bags with air and can sometimes get airflow blockages; lose desired pressure required to maintain air suspension, or the compressor may fail altogether.Fallout 4 ini tweaks 2020
Sometimes it may appear that the compressor should be replaced, but sometimes it may require a simple fix such as a cable repair or replacement. If the compressor is the issue, it is one of the most expensive repairs in the air suspension system.
How to Reset a Mercedes AC System
The main sign that the compressor is at fault is the whole vehicle is lowered and does not initiate any raise whatsoever. Air can potentially leak back into the compressor and cause internal damage to the compressor itself. This will impede the quality of journey and also the suspension elevation of the vehicle. W Airmatic valve block problems have a tendency to occur, but drivers often misidentify this issue as air suspension damage.
One of the side-effects of Airmatic valve block is that the vehicle does not maintain its height. Sometimes Airmatic shocks have factory failings or they become damaged due to incorrect handling during any stage of the life-cycle of the shock.
Customers report a squeaking noise or a rattling coming from inside the shock itself. This is usually caused as a result of dislodged internal components of the Airmatic suspension. The part may function fine, but the squeaking noise makes the driving experience unbearable, so the Airmatic parts should be replaced. Sometimes the culprit is the actual Airmatic air suspension strut itself that is the problem.Log in or Sign up. DIYnot Forums. Mercedes Viano Air suspension - Replace with springs??

Essentially the system though I don't know the Mercedes one intimately works as follows. You have a compressor which has a drier in it like air con etc.
There will be valve blocks to distribute the air, a resevoir, a control unit and some sort of height sensor, possibly 4 of them. Firstly you need to get the ecu memory read and list the fault codes and what they relate to. The nextthing to do is to check for air leaks soapy fairy liquid on all joints and air springs and all over the resevoir. Next I'd look at the calibration. By this I mean with an empty load, measure the height from the centre of the wheel hub to the top of the wheel arch.
I think they should se within 10 mm of each other. If not then the system ecu will need to be told what they are so as to allow the offsets.
Next look at the height sensors. Check for corroded or broken pins on the units and connectors. On a calibrated vehicle at normal height the output signal voltage will be 0 volts rising to around 4. The voltages could be different but most systems work on a 5V signal.
